DFI Day 9: Revision and Exam!

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Working with digital technology allows the teacher to give the students quicker instructions so they can roam and give more one on one attention to students.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I like getting ideas off other teachers that are working well to use in my class. I will look into flipgrid where students can give there thoughts in videos on the same page.

Learning more about google classroom showed me how to create and give assignments. This would be an alternative and I could try it. I like the idea of the responses being put into a folder automatically as my students are not on one to one devices and have limited time to play on devices.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

Creating a website and videos allows parents and students how to do things so they can work things out together when students get stuck. The rewindable learning takes the stress of urgency out of the learning.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Passing the exam really helped me with confidence. I enjoyed the revision using youtube videos at home. This allowed me to understand more how everything fits together as a whole.

Digital education offers opportunities and experiences and therefore transforms the way we learn. It is not just a tool. It empowers.

How to provide opportunity for students to be creators not just users.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? 

 I am very excited about using scratch stories and game creation to help the Te Reo oral language learning.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Increasing the ways of connecting can increase the sharing for involving parents and providing more authentic audience. Live stream events for parents not able to attend. Film festival for celebration and group viewing events.  QR codes can be advertised and used for live streaming for visiting family to event when they turn up on the day.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

There are many different ways to connect and some are more easily used by students and teachers depending on access to equipment.
Phone and hand held device to steady camera is an easy tool to use for the teacher.  You tube can be used by teachers to create film. I learnt how to embed a selected video so it did not give access to other related videos for the students to be distracted with.
Students can create video using screencastify and their camera on chromebook. This makes sure the film they produce is in their drive and they can embed this from here. This ensures you can help and track their activities..... you tube not suitable for them.


What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

I learnt more about google slides and how to create an animation. I think this will be an enjoyable way to share and get an audience on blogs. I also learnt how to create pick a path stories by linking options to different slides with different outcomes. This will be a good activity for writing.
On draw I learnt how to pick a colour using an extension tool and this could be useful. It showed me more how to handle code and I am now seeing where I can manipulate it.
I like how creative students have been at creating a portrait. This has opened my eyes to creative possibilities google draw offers for character design.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

You tube video channel looks like something useful I could use to store my interests and separate the work ones for the site work. I could use this to create my own videos for various things like art making and music.....building my home.

Hapara Dashboard has more uses than I knew.

Best place to see their posts.

Can also see all the comments and can check them.

Can see their inbox to check…..history is trapped and this is good to show them you can do this. If it is in their drive…..it will be in unshared files and can’t find it.

Highlights: Students on wrong thing: Browser tabs

You can drag people not being on the right thing up to the top to keep and eye out.

You can take a snip to have a conversation later.

You can see who are working collaboratively or individually.

Focus session…. Up to 10 students: Give general addresses…..drive.google.com…...maybe class site link…...dics.google.com……..blogger.com

Can only use these for a set time.    (follow up activity or just for students not on correct thing)

Can set this as a template you can select and modify when you want to use.

You can prevent access….to particular sites eg youtube…… (prevent access option)

Edit and assign students to groups. You must be the teacher to this class.

You can share a file….. You can create one in smart share or select a file from the drive. This is good because it automatically opens up in browser window.

Workspace: Can collaborate with other teachers even in the states.

You can use this for keeping track of assessments.

You can embed the workspace into the topic site so the students can access the various.

Screencastify is so easy.

How to use screencastify for student lesson instruction and I have to remember how to find an embed code by open window!!! It is not a logical step for me to remember easily.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

Using explain everything is fun and I now have more idea how to use and save the files. Students can use this across curriculum.

Rewindable videos using screencastify: how to lessons and modelling so those away can do the work when they get back or those with access at home can do it while they are away.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Greater efficiency in work life always means more time for a personal one! Yay

I can start to see how I could create sites and blogs for my own interests.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Creating better visability for whanau and colleagues.  Thinking about how easy and attractive the site is to make it more inspiring and useful to others.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

How to insert interesting and helpful information into my site. A video, A draw document and button. Links to school information and other class sites and blogs so students and parents have easy access from the class site.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? 

Improving the class site and how to create a video. I also learnt how to use a gif in my site by obtaining the GIF URL from a free website.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

That I can work out logically how to do something by trying things and following my nose. I can also ask others to help and learn off other students. They are happy to share their learning.

How to create a site for a topic with multimodal and multitext information.

How to quickly create sites for any purpose that can be shared and added to collaboratively. I have shared mine with the student teacher who is in my class so we can both work on the next topic.

Inserting the labels to use

DFI Day 3

I learnt how to use google sheets and copy chart to a doc or draw document. I like how it updates automatically on the presentation document if you change the data on the google sheets.

Going over how to use google forms gives me the confidence to use this to collect data from students to use student voice to inform planning.

I have created one on te reo to make my next steps in learning for them from the data.

Learning how to integrate forms, sheets and docs made me see how I could improve efficiency and creativity in my planning and lesson designs.

DFI Day 2

This is a blank uploaded video to show I can embed and copy and post.

We managed a hangout and it was fun. It was harder to talk without response when presenting than I thought. I need help with recording myself as I don't have an apple computer and will need to know how to use screencastify.
I have set up 3 hangouts for this week to practice.
I could see how commenting can build confidence and encourage acting on feedback.
I was able to organise bookmark bar and can teach this to the children. I can teach hangouts.

I feel more a little overwhelmed and need some time with the details of today. Teaching it will help me remember it.

We are learning how to use hangouts.

We managed to all present on the hangout but the recording didn't record. We have taken a snapshot of our hangout as evidence.

What did I learn today at DFI?

Personal voice is valuable and powerful. MK goal in her slide of goals.
Hook of technology and presenting to people who wanted to hear what they had to say.
Increased accelerated shift. (Evidence of success of learn create share method) Access to devices was limited.

Collecting data is essential to guide direction.

I learn to cntrl shift V instead of cntrl V to not bring the coding from another document! This stops the text running across the blog post.

I learnt to use the format tool in google docs and the snippit tool. These are very handy.

I learnt how to insert many different things to make a doc attractive and easier to find information.

I can teach others including the children how to do these things.

I feel more inspired knowing how to do more. It was great to do the scavanger hunt activity .....which showed me I learnt more that I thought!
